Bill Richardson: Cut Iran-Like Deal With North Korea

The United States should cut a nuclear deal with North Korea similar to the one just signed with Iran, says former U.N. Ambassador Bill Richardson.

“We’ve made this deal with Iran, and I’m not entirely sold on that,” Richardson said Sunday on “The Cats Roundtable” on AM 970 in New York Still, he said, North Korea should be approached in the same way.

With Iran, sanctions relief was given and frozen assets were promised to be released.

“Look, North Korea, get rid of your nuclear weapons. In exchange, maybe you get some food, some humanitarian assistance, some energy assistance,” Richardson said to host John Catsimatidis.

The problem with North Korea, he said, is that the United States needs to learn more about dictator Kim Jong-un.

“We know very little about the guy. He’s unstable. He hasn’t served in the military. ” Richardson said, “He doesn’t meet with anyone, unless you’re Dennis Rodman. He’s an enigma, and enigmas are dangerous.”
